How to burn an ISO file (suggestions) on DVD

For those that downloaded the Vista beta 2 iso image(s) and don't know how to burn it to DVD.
http://iso.snoekonline.com/iso.htm

Burning the ISO Image in NERO and Roxio Easy CD Creator: NERO Insert a Blank DVD, open Nero StartSmart > change the media type to DVD > select Copy and Backup > click "Burn Image to Disc" > navigate to where the Windows Vista BETA 2 Image is stored on your hard disk, (note: if you don't see it, make sure the image file type is changed to ISO" click Open and the burning wizard will automatically start.
Roxio Open Creator Classic > click File > "Record Disc from Image" > navigate to where the Windows Vista BETA 2 Image is stored >click Open and the burning wizard will automatically start.
Ensure that the ISO burns at a low speed, recommended speed, 2x for best results. Adapted from my Quickstarter/FAQ guide: http://windowsconnected.com/blogs/andre/archive/2006/06/08/3002.aspx

Andre;
Am I able to in any way check the dvd after I burn it (Nero 6 Express) to ensure that it burned correctly? Would I be able to use "FileCheckMD5?" If so, how? (I don't seem to be able to figure it out) I think you mentioned it somewhere in the forum but now I can't find it.
I really appreciate the patience you have wih all us newbies asking the same question over and over!

I don't use that one, I use the one from Ahead Nero http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_MD5_Verifier.html
Here are the MD5/CRC values for x86 or x64 depending on which every ISO you downloaded:
x86 - File Size = 3.12 GB (3,355,598,848 bytes) - CRC Value = 0x67E089E0 - MD5 Value = 0E733AB1A8E8FF9A8684FD3639332773 x64 - File Size = 4.01 GB (4,309,368,832 bytes) - CRC Value = 0x48697711 - MD5 Value = E43502D0A15EADD551119D5639859E04
Paste the MD5 Checksum for either x64 or x86 depending on which one you want check in Step 1, Step 2 - Browse to where you stored the ISO on your drive and open it and it will automatically start the varification process and generate the has in the third field, if it matches Step 1, then you are safe.
Maybe Zack can help you with FileCheckMD5 since it was recommended by him. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I know you must be tired of pasting the same information ad infinitum/nauseam, but we the unwashed masses sure appreciate both your and Zack's patience and expertise!
The interface of the Nero product looks simpler and I am slightly proficient with Nero 6 , so I will try that. Thanks.
I am sure this is already documented elsewhere, but when Nero verifies the disc after it has been burned, is it verifying the MD5 and the CRC against the ISO it burned from that is stored on the hard drive (ie the file I downloaded)?

Its actually verifying the integrity of the disk and if there were any errors during the actual burn process. The ISO file is what you need to check, the one you downloaded. Thanks for compliment, appreciate it very much and I am sure Zack does too. Great! I was able to download the Nero file Checker and it worked great on the x86 iso. It worked great on the SUSE 10.0 iso. But when I tried either of the two x64 iso's, I got a runtime error saying Nero was asked to close in an unusual way!? Obviously there is something wrong with both files! I will try to download again (Third times a charm, right?)
Thanks for the lessons!

Well, before you download again, you could always give the install a try and see if it works anyway, since setup failure tends to happen at the begining way before files are copied to the disk. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

Call me crazy, Andre, but I like to have all my ducks in a row before I attempt something as formidable as this. I have a week or so before I can migrate anyway, so I plan on using that time to ensure I have a good install disc. I also have a couple of drivers I am searching out, so that I have everything set to go when the time comes.
I thank you for the absolutely invaluable advice you have given me, and hope that I can call on you again if need be.

When I burn the ISO shouldn't it just automatically load when I turn put it in the drive?
It doesn't.
I tried with both NERO and with ISO burn

Microsoft says that a lot of the DVD burn problems can be fixed by burning the DVD at a slower speed.
Have you been checking verify?

Do a google search on
Vista DVD Burn Speed site:microsoft.com
There
is a lot of stuff about burning DVDs. In
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/preview.mspx
they advise "The installation process should start automatically. If it does not, run Setup from the DVD to begin installation and follow the step-by-step instructions that appear on the screen."
But it's still not going to work if you have a bad burn.
It's also possible that you didn't get a good download. The file could be incomplete, or corrupted.
Also did you burn the DVD as a data file or as an iso image?

Here is a procedure to verify the download iso. Scroll down to:
http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.php?getstarted
Scroll down to:
3 Verify the download
This section also gives you the file size, which is an important check, since the Microsoft downloader often stops before the download is actually complete.

Make sure you burn it as an ISO image not a data disk.
